"East is not the opposite of west. Just take a look at Istanbul!"
This project is an initiative of the Belgian theatre company De Eenzamen with six partners and six artists. It unfolds in the Euregions Maas-Rhine and Rhine-Meuse North. In august and september 2025 six performances will unveil six artistic mailboxes. Together they form a cross-border cycling route inviting passersby to pause, reflect and connect. After the performances, artist Jordi Möllering will set off on a poetic journey - cycling to the end of the world, delivering letters written by the audience.
Why?
We live in a digital age, increasingly polarized and disconnected. It's easy to lose sight of what unites us — our shared humanity, our need to be seen and heard.
We believe that when two people meet face-to-face they will find common ground. This project creates artistic and physical timespace for different people and perspectives to meet.
Why art?
Art creates and time and space for wonder and imagination. It is a safe space where contradictions may coexist. Art is something all humans have in common.
Why cycling?
The bicycle is a humble machine — earthbound yet far-reaching. It connects people and places through quiet effort. It teaches that progress comes with perseverance. Cyclists can stop, talk and listen. Bicycles open doors and hearts.
Why letters?
Because a letter is more than ink on paper — it’s a gesture of affection. Letters take time to write and to deliver. Letters are meant for special people, people we want to dedicate time and effort to.
